Can PickSnap directly cull 3,000 RAW photos?
No. The current importer does not support camera RAW extensions such as CR2/CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF or DNG. PickSnap has not published a 3,000-photo performance benchmark.
If direct RAW review is essential, compare tools with documented RAW preview support in our Photo Mechanic and Narrative comparison.
Working with separate JPEG previews
- Use companion JPEGs from a RAW+JPEG shoot, or generate JPEG copies with your camera software or RAW editor. Keep the RAW originals separately.
- Open the JPEG folder in PickSnap. Mark, rate and compare the previews; preview detail depends on the JPEG's resolution and processing.
- Export selected JPEG copies and their XMP ratings, or keep a filename selection list.
- In your RAW editor, manually match the chosen filenames to the RAW originals and apply your decisions there.
PickSnap does not automatically select, copy, rate or update companion RAW files. XMP produced for a JPEG is not a promise that a RAW editor will apply that rating to a different file. Check the receiving editor's actual behavior.
Choose the right preview
A small or heavily processed JPEG may be sufficient for composition, but can be unsuitable for judging RAW detail, noise or recoverable exposure. Use your RAW editor for those decisions. This workflow leaves the separately stored RAW files unchanged; it does not turn PickSnap into a RAW decoder.
